(Nina) Art, Fashion and Design is a forum that was created primarily for the discussion of art, fashion and design. It tends to house threads that discuss aspects of these very visual objects and practices. Among the recent threads are discussions on practical clothes making, annotations of works of art, a comparison of Dr. Who monsters that focuses specifically on their physical design and attributes and a thread on the question 'Is it art?'
Threads on art, fashion and design theory are also welcome. If you want to talk about Benjamin's essay 'The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction' than you're in the right forum and if you want a question answered on the specifics of fashion theory than again this is the right place to post about it. If you're starting a general arts focused thread that encompasses art, literature and other forms than it could belong here, particularly if it stems from a discussion of a painting or sculpture but a thread that encompasses all artforms equally probably belongs in the Head Shop.
This can be a difficult forum because it focuses so intently on the visual. Somehow the application of text to a forum about image and structure doesn't seem quite right but we attempt it anyway. There are some threads that seem to come round again and again, Stupid Art, Fashion and Design questions [1] (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/19960) is probably a good example. I suppose that there's a distinct divide between the high culture threads that examine artists and their work, and the low culture threads that have a tendency to exchange information on the best shops to buy certain types of clothes from. It can be difficult to bridge the gap between the high and low culture threads in this forum but they do tend to attract the same amount of attention.
