Amazon Links

Formatting For Amazon Links on Barbelith
If you link to a book on Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com from barbelith, then you could be helping support the board's running costs. Because, if the link is formatted in a certain way, and contains a certain Secret Code, then Amazon throw a few shiny pennies Tom's way. Or something. Anyway, this page tells you how to make helpful links.
For Amazon.com:
Okay, so, find the product you want to link to, and look at the address bar. It’s full of stuff.
All you’re after is the 10-ish digit number that Amazon uses to identify which product you’re looking at. Should be the first string of numbers there. Highlight it and Ctrl-C it or write it down or whatever, thus:
Now you need to put that 10-digit number into a form that’ll work as a barbelith link, and with a code that’ll let Amazon know that its barbelith calling. Stick the number into this bit of HTML linkery, in place of all the Xs:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/XXXXXXXXXX/noahwylemanorani">Title</a>
...and then call the link whatever you want, where it says 'title'. So, for the Judith Butler book, for example, the finished link might look like this:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0415969239/noahwylemanorani">Undoing Gender by Judy!</a>
...and now you can post *that* into a barbelith thread. It should work. Really.
For Amazon.co.uk:
Pretty much the same thing, but slightly different. You’ll need to grab the 10-digit number out of the address bar, and stick it into this bit of HTML. Note there’s a different special secr1t barbelith code at the end:
<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/XXXXXXXXXX/invisithebomb">Title</a>
So, a link for buying the Judith Butler book from Amazon.co.uk would look like this:
<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0415969239/invisithebomb">Undoing Gender by Judy!</a>
...Okay? If you’ve any questions about all this, please feel free to ask them in this thread (http://www.barbelith.com/topic/20469). I’m quite sure someone’ll know the answer.
